All-on-4 Dental Implants Procedure: Step-by-Step Guide

All-on-4 Dental Implants Procedure: Step-by-Step Guide
The All-on-4 procedure replaces an entire arch of missing or failing teeth with a fixed bridge supported by four dental implants. It’s designed to feel more stable than removable dentures and look more like natural teeth.
Here’s what the process usually looks like.
Step 1: Consultation and Treatment Planning
Your journey begins with a comprehensive evaluation:
- Exam of teeth, gums, and bite
- X-rays and scans to assess jawbone and anatomy
- Review of health history and goals
Your dentist then creates a customized plan for implant placement and the design of your new teeth.
Step 2: Removal of Failing Teeth (If Needed)
If teeth in the arch can’t be saved, they may be removed on the day of surgery to create a clean foundation.
Step 3: Implant Placement
During surgery:
- Four implants are placed strategically in the jaw
- Two are typically placed toward the front
- Two are placed toward the back at specific angles to maximize available bone
Local anesthesia and, in some cases, sedation help keep you comfortable.
Step 4: Temporary Fixed Bridge
Many patients receive a temporary fixed bridge the same day or shortly after, so you leave with teeth instead of an empty smile.
Step 5: Healing and Osseointegration
Over the next few months, implants fuse with the jawbone (osseointegration). During healing:
- Follow a softer diet as recommended
- Attend follow-ups to monitor progress
- Adjust the temporary bridge if needed
Step 6: Final Bridge Placement
Once implants are stable:
- New impressions or scans are taken
- Your final bridge is created for fit, function, and natural appearance
- The final bridge is attached to complete treatment
